Facts Still Matter

[Blog Post #6 of 21]

Although we can access facts about anything in seconds, there’s still value to memorizing key facts.

Suppose you were explaining the power of Snapchat to a skeptical 49 year old business owner whose customers are in their late 20s to mid-30s.

You might pique her interest if you said, “Snapchat is really popular among young people and although it’s not Facebook, it’s a platform that you should seriously consider jumping on.”

Or you could say, “While Facebook is still the most popular social media platform, Snapchat has a significant share of your customer’s attention. 79.8 percent of 25 to 34 year olds use Facebook, but 37.9% use Snapchat. Snap Inc is going public this year with a valuation of $25 to $35 billion. You should probably pay attention to what they are doing, because everyone else is. Plus, if you get on the platform now instead of 12 to 18 months from now, you’ll be way ahead of your competitors.”

Which argument is more persuasive?

Statistics are important.

Know your industry's metrics and focus on a handful that matter to your customers.

Memorize the numbers and keep current.

It won’t just position you as someone who is more knowledgeable than your competitors, it shows your customers and prospects that you care.

What facts can you cite off the top of your head?
