It's January 8th. Are You Still Thinking Long Term?
[Blog Post #8 of 21]
It’s easy to have a long-term perspective on January 1st. Everyone talks about the past year, the upcoming year, and how things can change.
The feeling of possibility burns strong.
We KNOW we can create the life we want for ourselves and our family. However, there’s a cost.
We need to change our behavior.
We need to stop doing things that hold us back from achieving our goals.
We need more time and more focus.
I’ve learned that the best way to do this is to have a plan.
A plan that is ambitious, exciting, and attainable.
But creating such a plan is difficult.
Here’s how I’m approaching it.
1) I work on my plan when I’m not distracted and I’m at my freshest. (Before sunrise.)
2) I present the draft to people who will give me candid and valuable feedback. I want more than “That’s awesome. Go for it!”
I look for people who care about me (or have aligned interests) and will invest time thinking about my plan.
I also look for people with relevant areas of expertise. I want a leader at my company evaluating my work goals and a social media marketing expert looking at my marketing plans.
3) Ummmmm, I don’t know yet.
I’m still on step 2, but I thought it would be valuable share what I’ve done so far.
Are you still thinking high level goals or have you been sucked back into the daily grind?
