Setting goals is a waste of time

August 14, 2018

I heard a successful business leader disparage goal setting. It distracted him from doing what was most important.

No goals?

A ridiculous comment. How can a person build anything without goals?

A big idea gets shaped into a goal which is whittled down to a plan that is executed.

Voila, the great idea that was held hostage in your brain escapes to become reality for the rest of us.

But maybe his life and business philosophy of no goal setting means something simpler.

Don’t get lost in trying to achieve too much.

Focus on what will bring the greatest value. Don’t dilute the most productive hours in the day working towards inferior goals.

That makes sense.
